How to find your MAC address

Instructions for Windows -

  1. Press (Windows Key) + R to bring up the Run prompt.
  2. Type "ncpa.cpl" in the box and press "OK."
  3. Right click on the tab labeled "Ethernet ..." and click on "Status."
    • Please note: The number following Ethernet on this page may be different than the one in the screenshot.
  4. Click on "Details" and locate "Physical Address." This is your MAC address.
    • MAC addresses are formatted as such: 12-34-56-78-90-12

 

Instructions for macOS -                                                                     

  1. Click on the Apple icon in the top left of your screen, and select "System Settings."
  2. From the side menu, select the tab "Network," 
  3. If the Ethernet cord is currently connected to your computer, at the top of the network tab the corresponding service will appear, click on this.
  4. Click on the "Details" button, and from the side bar click on "Hardware."
  5. Locate "MAC address," this is your MAC address.

Instructions for Linux -

Using ifconfig -a

  1. Open a terminal.
  2. Type ifconfig -a and press Enter.
  3. Locate the network interface you're interested in (e.g., eth0 for wired, wlan0 for wireless)                                    
  4. The MAC address will be displayed next to HWaddr (or ether for some interfaces).
    • MAC addresses are formatted as such: 12:34:56:78:90:12

Using ip addr

  1. Open a terminal.
  2. Type ip addr and press Enter.
  3. Find the relevant network interface
  4. The MAC address will be displayed next to link/ether.
    • MAC addresses are formatted as such: 12:34:56:78:90:12
