Duo Mobile end of support for Android 10 and iOS 14
Effective February 8, 2024, Duo Mobile will no longer support Android 10 and iOS 14 (as well as prior versions of these operating systems).
By limiting support to newer operating systems, Duo can continue to build more user-friendly and secure features. UCF Information Security Office recommends that users upgrade to the latest iOS or Android version to receive ongoing security updates and improvements.
What is changing?
Google and Apple deploy new operating systems as major releases every year. As part of these release cycles, older operating systems on Android and iOS mobile devices stop receiving important updates and go through end-of-service and end-of-life phases. To anticipate these OS deprecations, Duo will no longer support Duo Mobile on Android 10 or iOS 14.
This end-of-support milestone means that:
In summary, if your personal device already has Duo Mobile installed, it will continue to function but you will not be able to reinstall it if you remove the application from your phone or procure a new phone with these unsupported operating systems. SMS text remains unaffected.
UCF ISO Recommendation-
While Duo Mobile will continue to work on these devices, UCF’s Information Security Office strongly recommends that these devices be updated, or if no longer eligible for updates, retired. As these operating systems will no longer receive updates and security patches, they should be considered unsafe for any sort of use requiring confidentiality (banking, email, MFA, etc.). UCF ISO recommends that these devices be replaced at your earliest convenience with one using a modern and supported operating system.
