A Teams Calling number is required to make or receive “traditional” voice calls outside of UCF.  “Traditional” simply means that the person on the other side of the call could be using a normal phone, a cell phone, a digital phone, etc.   

For instance, calling a prospective student, or an outside vendor, would be considered a “traditional” call.   A Teams Calling number is not required for Teams calls/meetings with students, faculty, or staff, that are in the UCF directory.  It is also not required for Teams or Zoom meetings with external parties.  Teams will work as it does today for those cases, without a Teams Calling number.  Here are some tips to help decide if you need a Teams Calling number:

• If your UCF work duties require you to make or receive traditional calls from students or non-UCF faculty/staff.
• If your UCF work duties require you to make or receive traditional calls from UCF faculty/staff.
• If you prefer to use a UCF phone number to make or receive work related calls.

You do not need a Teams Calling number:

• If you only interact with UCF employees via Teams/Zoom meetings today.
• If you only interact with non-UCF faculty/staff via Teams/Zoom meetings today.

How can I tell if I have a Teams Calling number already?

1. Open the Microsoft Teams desktop application.
2. Select the Calls tab from the app bar on the left-hand side of the user interface.
3. If a Teams phone number has been assigned to you it will be displayed underneath the dial pad, as illustrated in the screenshot below.
   

What do I need to submit to get Teams Calling enabled?

To make and receive external phone calls using the Microsoft Teams app you will need a Microsoft Teams phone number. Please note that this feature is made available to select staff members on a case-by-case basis.

Your department will need to submit a Phone Services Request on your behalf to authorize Teams Calling.
