Removing Allow my Organization to Manage My Device Setting in Microsoft 365 for Personal Devices


This guide provides instructions for undoing the "Allow my organization to manage my device" setting on your personal Windows device, which is subject to University security policies.


Please be aware that this process is intended solely for personal devices and is not applicable to University-managed computers. This is ONLY in cases where a personal device has been accidentally configured with University security settings and policies and need to be removed. 

Step 1: Uninstall Microsoft Software

1. Uninstall Microsoft 365, including the Office suite, and any residual applications like OneDrive and Skype for Business. These applications' licenses often enforce security policies.

Step 2: Remove University Account from Windows

1. Open Windows Settings by clicking the Start menu and selecting the gear icon, then navigate to "Accounts."

2. Under "Email & accounts," select your NID@ucf.edu University account, click "Manage," and choose "Delete account from this device."

3. Under "Access work or school," locate your NID@ucf.edu account and disconnect it.

Step 3: Remove Personal Device from University Account

1. Log in to the Microsoft Office web portal using your NID@ucf.edu account.

2. Under "Office apps & devices," click "View apps & devices."

3. Sign out of any unfamiliar computer names.

4. Power off your personal PC completely and wait 20 minutes.

Step 4: Reinstall Microsoft Software (if licensed)

1. If applicable, click "Install Office" to download the software.

2. During installation, sign in with your University account.

3. DO NOT check the "Allow my organization to manage my device" box. If possible, opt for the "This app only" sign-in.

By adhering to these steps and acknowledging the disclaimer, you can successfully eliminate the "Allow my organization to manage my device" setting on your personal Windows device while preventing the reapplication of University security policies.
