How to find your hostname


The following guide will tell you how to find the Hostname and the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of your computer. Your computers Hostname is the “full name” of your computer on UCF’s network and is used to identify your computer on the network. The Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) is the “full name” of the computer with the additional information of what part of the network it resides in.

Windows

1. Click the Start Menu and type “about”.

2. Click on About your PC in the results.

3. Under Device Specifications in the Settings window, you will see your Device Name which is your Hostname, and the Full Device Name which is the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN).

Linux & Mac

1. Open Terminal.


2. Type “hostname” in the prompt and press the Enter key on your keyboard.

3. The result that returns is the Hostname of your computer.
