How do I move my OneNote Notebooks?

This article will explain how to export your OneNote Notebook and Classroom Notebooks so that you are able to transfer them to another user or your Student @ucf.edu account from Knights. The current transferring method for OneNote Notebook and OneNote Classroom Notebooks will only export in the Windows operating system using the OneNote application. Mac or PC can receive the file.

Note:

You must use the OneNote application. The OneNote tablet application does not have the same features.

Exporting Your Notebook

  1. Open the Notebook you wish to export and transfer to a new user in your OneNote Application.
  2. If your OneNote is saved locally onto your computer, open it as you normally do.
  3. If OneNote is saved only online, choose File > Edit in Desktop App (Figure 1).

Note:

If OneNote is not downloaded onto your PC, review the following article: Installing Microsoft 365 Apps with your Student account.

  1. Once in the OneNote Application, click File (Figure 2).

  2. Click Export (Figure 3).

  6. Choose a location to save the Notebook, then change the file name to whatever you would like.
  7. Click Save.

Your Notebook has now been exported and is ready for transfer to another user via email. Once confirmed that the user is able to open the Notebook, you may delete it.

Importing a Notebook Transferred to You

  1. Download and save the file locally to your computer.
  2. Drag the file into your OneDrive using your OneDrive folder on your computer or in the Web Browser.
  3. Open the file in the Web version of OneNote by double clicking the file in your OneDrive.
  4. If you wish to use the OneNote Application from the Web Browser click File> Edit in Desktop App.

Unable to export OneNote Notebook:

"Sorry we can't create |0. It's possible you don't have the right permissions or enough disk space".

Issue: You receive the above error when trying to export your OneNote Notebook to a OneNote Package (.onepkg) file. There appears to be a bug in OneNote that requires the sections of a Notebook to be in alphabetical order.

Solution:

You have two options to resolve this issue:

    1. Copy the contents of the OneNote Notebook to a new Notebook in your desired location
    2. Add A, B, C... in front of each section name to make the sections be in alphabetical order.
