What Is Bitly?
UCF IT now offers UCF branded, shortened URLs and QR codes. The purpose of this service is to create brief, memorable URLs/QR codes for departments, colleges, groups, or events for marketing purposes. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Printing of URLs/QR codes on merchandise, publications or other collateral where space is of concern.
- Video, radio, or television advertising where the audience is required to remember the URL.
The domain go.ucf.edu has been established as the UCF Marketing-driven URL for the University.
- Randomized links: Bitly will shorten links to an auto-generated randomized back-half if no custom-back half is specified.
- Custom back-halves: Specified back-half (path) of a Bitly link as opposed to the auto-generated, randomized half.
- It will be up to the link requester to decide on the name of the link and will need to use the following convention: go.ucf.edu/"College or Dept"-"Keyword".
- For example, an onboarding form issued by Human Resources could be named, "go.ucf.edu/HR-Onboard".
- NOTE: The characters `~,<>;':"/\[]^{}()=+!*@&$?%#| are not allowed in custom-back halves.

Who is Eligible?
- Departments, divisions, offices, degree programs, or other organizational units within the university.
- Established university events (commencement, Welcome Week, Move-In Day).
NOTE: This offering is not available for personal, non-university business.
UCF IT controls the peripheral naming schemes associated with URLs, such as vanity URLs, short URLs, and other redirects, for practical management of the University's collective digital presence. The Enterprise Application Support team reserves the right to terminate any previously awarded shortened URL if:
- The URL contains content or links to content that violate any policies (student handbook, faculty handbook, etc.) within the university.
- The URL violates UCF IT's acceptable use policy.
Bitly Link Analytics
Bitly provides analytics that allow users to gain insight into how the shortened links are performing. If you need information on Bitly links but do not have an official Bitly license, request a Bitly Metrics Report.
Bitly UTMs
UTMs are useful in scenarios where you have multiple Bitly links going to the same destination URL. For more information, please refer to the Bitly UTMs knowledge base article.
