Introduction
The Rich Content Editor (RCE) in Canvas allows you link or embed YouTube videos within your course content using any of the following methods:
Instructions
Finding the YouTube URL and Embed Code
1. Select the Share option under the YouTube video you plan to link or embed
2. Click the Copy button to copy the link for the video
3. To find the embed code for the video, select the Embed option
4. Adjust any of the settings as needed, then click Copy
Inserting an External Link Using the Rich Content Editor
1. Place your cursor and click where you would like to insert the link to the YouTube video, or, if you already have text in the RCE, highlight the text that you would like displayed in place of the link
2. Click on the Links option in the RCE toolbar
3. Select External Link from the options that appear
4. Fill in the Text field with the text that should be displayed in place of the link (if you highlighted text in step 1, then the highlighted text should automatically appear in this field)
5. Copy and paste the URL from YouTube into the Link field
6. Click Done
Inserting an External Link Under a Module
1. Click the plus (+) icon to the far right of the module you plan to add to add the link to
2. In the window that appears, select External URL from the list of options
3. Copy and paste the URL from YouTube into the URL field
4. Enter the text that you would like displayed in place of the URL in the Page Name field
5. Adjust the "Load in a new tab" and "Indentation" settings accordingly
6. Click Add Item
7. To ensure that the link to the YouTube video is published and accessible to students, click on the circle icon with a line through it to the far right of the newly added link; it should update to a green checkmark to indicate that it has been published
Embedding Using the Rich Content Editor
1. Place your cursor and click where you would like to insert the embedded YouTube video
2. Click on the Embed icon in the RCE toolbar
3. In the window that appears, copy and paste the embed code from YouTube
4. Click Submit
Embedding Using Accessible Video EmbedderÂ
1. Place your cursor and click where you would like to insert the embedded YouTube video
2. Click on the Apps icon in the RCE toolbar
3. Click View All
4. In the window that appears, click on Accessible Video EmbedderÂ
5. Copy and paste the URL from YouTube into the Enter a YouTube URL field
6. Click Search for captions
7. Select the captions provided by YouTube, or upload your own captions
8. Preview the video if necessary, then click Use these captions
