This article explains how students can use Panopto to submit a video assignment submission in Canvas.

1. Navigate to your course in Canvas and then to the Assignments tab on the left.

2. Select the assignment that you need to submit.

3. On the submission page, select the plug icon in the toolbar of the text entry editor, then click View All.

4. In the window that appears, search for Panopto Embed Tool or simply scroll down until you find Panopto Embed Tool in the list.

5. In the window that appears, ensure that the proper assignment folder is selected. You will then have a few different options to choose from:

• Choosing a video that has already been uploaded to Panopto.
• Uploading a video from your device into Panopto.
• Recording a video using Panopto.

Choosing a Video in Panopto

If you have previously uploaded a video to Panopto and would like to use it as your assignment submission, select the Choose tab, click on the recording you would like to submit, then click Insert.

Uploading a Video from your Device

To upload a video file that is already stored on your device:

1. Select the Upload tab, then click anywhere within the gray dotted box.

2. In the window that appears, locate and click on the recording to select it, then click Open.

3. The recording may take some time to process depending on the overall size of the file and the length of the video. Once it has finished processing, click the Insert option.

Recording a Video Using Panopto

To record a video submission using Panopto:

1. Select the Record tab.

2. Update the “Name your recording” field to a name that better describes your video.

3. Under the “How would you like to record?” heading, you have the option to download and install the Panopto recorder on your device, however, we recommend using the Capture (Browser) option, as it allows for the same functionality without the need to install any software.

4. Click Launch Capture to open the Panopto Capture tool in a new tab.

5. Once you are done recording and your video has finished processing, simply close the Panopto Capture tab and a preview of your video submission should already be posted in the text extry editor of your Canvas assignment.

Submitting your Panopto Video Assignment

Upon completion of either of these methods, a preview of your recording should appear within the text entry editor. When you are ready, click the blue Submit Assignment button to submit your assignment.
