How to Migrate Personal Files to OneDrive


 

 

   

The following steps describe how to migrate data files to Microsoft OneDrive.

Migrating Data from Local Device to OneDrive

IMPORTANT: Your device may already be automatically syncing your Desktop, Documents, and Pictures folder by default to OneDrive.

Step 1 – Open File Explorer

Click the File Explorer button on the Windows taskbar.

Step 2 – Copy Data

Navigate to the location where the files to be migrated are located. Select the files that are going to be migrated. Right-click and select Copy.

NOTE: Pressing “Ctrl + C” on the keyboard will also copy the currently selected items. If migrating all files and folders within the location, press “Ctrl + A” to copy all data.

Step 3 – Open OneDrive Folder

Within File Explorer, select OneDrive – University of Central Florida in the left navigation pane.

Step 4 – Copying Data to OneDrive

Within OneDrive Folder, navigate to the desired location where the files are to be migrated. Right-click and select Paste.

NOTE: Pressing the “Ctrl + V” on the keyboard will also paste the currently selected items. This process may take some time depending on the size of the files.

Step 5 – Verify Data in OneDrive

Under Status, check that all files and folders are either stored online or locally .

Migrating Data from a Personal Network Share to OneDrive

IMPORTANT: If you are working remotely, please confirm that you are connected to the VPN through Cisco AnyConnect.

Step 1: Open the File Explorer

Open the File Explorer .

Navigate to your personal Network Share.

Step 2: Copy Files

Select the files that need to be transferred by right-clicking and selecting copy.

Step 3: Moving Files to OneDrive

Navigate to the “OneDrive - University of Central Florida” Folder and select the desired location then right-click and paste.

NOTE: This process may take some time depending on network speed and file sizes. Ensure that the device remains connected to the network during the entire process.

Step 4: Confirming File Transfer was Successful

Once the file transfer is completed take a moment to check different folders within OneDrive and confirm that everything copied over properly, and all data is accounted for.

This can be done by selecting all the recently copied file. Afterwards right-click and select View Properties, to check the size of the transferred files. Compare the file size to the original folder.

Step 5 – Verify Data in OneDrive

Under Status, check that all files and folders are either stored onlineor locally.
