Windows Update for Business (WUfB) allows you to keep Windows 10-based devices in your organization always up-to-date with the latest security defenses and Windows features when these devices connect directly to the Windows Update (WU) service. One of the main features of WUfB is the ability to defer and postpone updates to fit your schedule, allowing you to plan the update accordingly while still keeping the environment safe and secure.
· This phase will last a maximum of 7 Days in which a user can choose to Pick a Time (Schedule), Snooze (Defer), or Restart Now (Update Now) the Feature (Version) or Quality (Security) update that has become available.
· If client has selected to Snooze, it will ask again to schedule or install updates each subsequent days until the 7 day phase has been completed.
· If client has scheduled an update by clicking on ‘Pick a Time’; the endpoint will install and restart the updates at the time the user has selected. An image like the one below will show if the PC is scheduled to restart when in use.
· This phase is similar to the Transition phase in which the client can choose to Pick a Time (Schedule), Snooze (Defer), or Restart Now (Update Now) the Feature (Version) or Quality (Security) update that has become available. The main distinction to this phase is the modal dialog box which alerts the client full-screen (as shown below) and will not automatically disappear. It will require the client to perform an action before they can continue to utilize the endpoint.
· This final phase is only reached if the endpoint has not yet successfully restarted (installed) the update that has been made available. This final deadline phase will forcefully restart the computer outside of active hours after 2 Days / 30 Days depending on the type(s) of updates available. This will trigger if the client takes no previous action to schedule or restart their endpoint. “Pick a Time” will only allow scheduling the restart before the end of the deadline phase.
