How to Dial 911 from Microsoft Teams
Step 1. Verify 911 Calling Capability
- Check with your department that you have a Teams Phone calling license assigned with a UCF Phone Number. Without it, the dial pad will not appear in Teams on desktop or mobile.
If you do not have a Teams Phone calling license use your cell phone if you have it.

Step 2. Check Internet and Location Settings
Internet Connection
- Make sure your computer is powered on and connected to the internet via wired Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
- You can check this by opening a web browser and visiting any website. If the page doesn’t load, troubleshoot your network connection before attempting to call.
Location Access – Desktop Users
- If you are on campus and connected to the UCF network (wired or UCF Wi-Fi):
Your location will be sent automatically when placing a 911 call from the Teams desktop app. You do not need to adjust location settings.
- If you are off campus or not connected to the UCF network:
You must enable location services in your operating system so Teams can share your address with emergency services.
- Windows: Go to Start → Settings → Privacy & security → Location. Turn Location services on and allow Microsoft Teams to access your location.
- macOS: Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services. Turn on Location Services and allow Microsoft Teams to use your location.
- After enabling location in your OS, open Teams → Settings → Calls and confirm your Emergency Calling Location is correct.
Step 3. Dial 911 from the Teams Dial Pad
On Desktop:
- Go to the Calls tab or click the Dial Pad icon.
- Enter 911 and press Call.
On Mobile:
- Open the Teams app.
- Tap Calls → Dial Pad.
- Enter 911 and tap Call.
You do not need to dial a prefix such as “9” before 911.

Calling 911 from an Audiocodes Deskphone
If you are using a UCF-issued Audiocodes deskphone:
- The phone must be logged in with your NID and password to make calls.
- Once logged in, simply pick up the handset, dial 911, and press Send (if required on your model).
- If your deskphone is not logged in, you will not be able to place any calls, including 911.
If you need instructions on logging in to your Audiocodes deskphone, refer to the Logging in to an Audiocodes Teams Phone knowledge article or contact the UCF IT Support Center.
Step 4. State Your Location Clearly
- Always verbally confirm your exact location with the 911 dispatcher (building, floor, and room number if on campus).
Step 5: Report a 911 Issue
If you encounter problems with emergency calling via Teams (e.g., dial pad malfunction, location not transmitting), please report the issue promptly:
- Log in to the UCF IT ServiceNow self-service portal.
- Submit a 911 Emergency Calling Issue service request through the catalog.

- Include as much detail as possible, such as:
- Date and time of the issue
- What happened (or didn't happen)
- Any error message or screenshots
This helps UCF IT quickly identify and resolve critical issues affecting emergency response capabilities.
Important Notes
- If your location cannot be detected, your call will be routed to a national emergency call center, which verbally confirm with you the address and will then transfer you to the appropriate emergency dispatch center once you provide your address.
