Introduction
The Ivanti AppSense Agent allows UCF users to elevate privileges for approved software installations or updates on their Windows computers without requiring administrative rights. This guide walks you through the configuration and usage process.
In order to use this software for elevation, the following pre-requisites need to be met.
- You have submitted a Privileged Endpoint Access Request, and that request was approved and you received a notice From an IT technician that Ivanti AppSense was configured and implemented for the specific computer you are using.
- You are connected to the UCF network via one of the following:
- UCF Wired Network
- UCF_WPA2 Wireless Network
- UCF VPN (for off-campus access)
Reminder: Only use elevation for approved and trusted software. Misuse may result in revocation of privileges or disciplinary action.
Instructions
Configuration Steps
1. Verify Network Connection
Ensure your device is connected to the UCF network. If off-campus, connect to the UCF VPN using the Cisco AnyConnect client.
2. Check for Ivanti AppSense Agent Installation
Open Software Center on your computer and ensure that the following two applications are showing as installed. If they are not installed, please install them and restart your computer when both installations are complete.
- Ivanti Deployment Agent
- Ivanti Application Control Agent
Using the Agent to Elevate Software
1. Locate the Software Installer or Application
Navigate to the .exe, .msi, or shortcut of the application you need to run with elevated privileges.
2. Right-Click and Select Elevation Option
Right click on the application or installer and choose "Run with Administrative Privileges (Audited)". You may need to select "Show more options" on the right click menu before this option is shown.
3. Proceed with Installation or Use
Once elevated, the application will run with administrative privileges.
Troubleshooting
- Agent Not Found: Ensure the agent is installed.
- Elevation Option Missing: You may not have the correct permissions or the application is not on the approved list.
- Network Issues: Verify you are connected to the UCF network or VPN.
