How to Report a Suspicious Message in Teams


Question

How do I report a suspicious or inappropriate message I received in Teams? How do I know what should be reported?

Answer

To report a message: 

1.  Go to the message and select More options  Microsoft Teams more options icon > More actions > Report this message.

2.  Go to Select a problem, choose the option that best describes the message you want to report (Security risk or Inappropriate) then select Report.

3.  You'll receive a popup message confirming that your report was sent.

 

Your report is then delivered to the UCF Security Operations Center for review. 

 

You should report messages that fall into the following categories:

Security Risks:

Messages that contain phishing attempts, malware links, or other threats to your organization's security

Inappropriate Content:

Offensive, profane, or harassing language
Adult, racy, or gory images
Sharing of sensitive or confidential information


Reporting these types of messages helps keep our Teams environment safe and respectful for everyone. If you're unsure whether a message should be reported, it's better to err on the side of caution and report it.
