How to configure NID authentication methods for use with Microsoft MFA and SSPR

*UCF IT recommends setting a minimum of 2 methods.

 

For MFA the recommended methods are as follows:

Logging into your security settings

  1. Navigate to https://aka.ms/mfasetup
  2. Sign in using NID@ucf.edu for the username and your NID password
  3. Authenticate if necessary
  4. Click the plus sign that says "Add sign-in method"

Configuring the Microsoft Authenticator App

*If you have not previously done so, please install the Microsoft Authenticator App to your phone or mobile device before completing this section

  1. From the drop down arrow select Authenticator App
  2. Click "Add"
  3. Click "Next" to verify that you have the app and ready to begin
  4. Click "Next" to begin setting up a "Work or school" account
  5. In the Authenticator App on your phone tap the plus sign, and then choose a "Work or school account"
  6. Tap "Scan QR code"
  7. Use the QR code scanner in the app to scan the QR code on the screen
  8. Click "Next"
  9. You will be sent a number match push.  Complete the number match in the app
  10. Success! Click "Next" to configure additional methods

 

Configuring SMS

  1. From the Add sign-in method dropdown menu, select "Phone"
  2. Click "Add"
  3. Enter your phone number and click "Next" to receive a code via SMS text message
  4. Enter the code you received and click "Next"               
  5. Click "Done" to return to the Security info page     

 

Configuring Email (only usable for SSPR, at least one of the above methods must be configured for MFA)

  1. From the Add sign-in method dropdown menu, select "Email"
  2. Click "Add"
  3. Enter the email address you would like to use       
  4. Check your email for a message from msonlineservicesteam@microsoftonline.com
  5. Enter the code from your email and click "Next"
