How to Create a Zero Point Quiz in New Quizzes

Introduction

With the transition to New Quizzes, it will no longer be possible to create a survey or practice quiz in the same manner as classic quizzes. Additionally, surveys and practice quizzes that were built as classic quizzes will be converted to graded quizzes upon migration. However, an alternative option is to create a zero point quiz using New Quizzes.

Instructions

Ungraded surveys and practice quizzes were previously excluded from the course gradebook, however, any New Quiz administered in Canvas will automatically generate a column in the gradebook, regardless of its point value or settings. However, the impact the quiz has on a student's grade can still be eliminated by making the following changes:

1. When creating the quiz, set the total point value to 0 points

2. Check the box titled "Do not count this assignment towards the final grade"

New Quiz settings for a zero point quiz.

3. If the Weighted Assignment Groups feature is enabled in your course, you can also create an assignment group worth 0% and place all ungraded quizzes under this group

NOTE: When adding questions to a quiz, a point value can also be assigned to each individual question, however, with the previously mentioned settings in place, students will not be able to receive a grade higher than a 0, regardless of the point values assigned to each question.
