How do I Manually Check for 32-Bit Applications on macOS ?

Starting with 10.15 Catalina release of macOS, Apple is no longer supporting or allowing the use of 32-bit applications. The information below will show you how to check which program you already have installed that are 32-bit, that will no longer function after the upgrade to macOS 10.15 Catalina is performed.

Please ensure that you check for application compatibility before upgrading to the latest version of macOS.

You can check your apps for 64-bit compatibility manually with the following steps.

  1. Click on the Apple icon in the top left of the menu bar.

  2. Select About This Mac.

  3. Click on the System Report…

This report will show you the 32 bits apps when you are on Mojave or other prior macOS.

Once you’re in this list, click on any app. You should see a section titled “64-Bit (Intel).” Yes means the app is 64-bit, No means the app is 32-bit and needs to be updated.

Older Microsoft apps will no longer function and require updating.

By default, macOS will display a dialog box if you attempt to open a 32-bit app when using macOS Mojave 10.14. The popup will say that the app is “not optimized for your Mac,” or something similar.
