Can I request UCF to hold the release of my "Directory Information"?

Yes. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) allows students to direct educational institutions to hold the release of “directory information” to all 3rd party requests unless it receives the student’s written and signed consent. FERPA does outline certain circumstances, however, under which institutions may release student record information to 3rd parties without the student’s prior written and signed consent. To place a “hold” upon your “directory information,” submit a signed “Directory Disclosure/Release Authorization” form to the Registrar’s Office (MH 161). The form is available at the Registrar’s Office or from the Registrar’s Office web site at http://registrar.ucf.edu  For detailed information describing FERPA regulations, consult either the Registrar’s Office web site at http://registrar.ucf.edu or the United States Department of Education Family Compliance Office web site at http://www.ed.gov/offices/OM/fpco/
